1/22/2023 0 Comments The Power of Dragons: Our Inspiration for our Epic Watercolor from House of the Dragon
We decided to depict Daemon, in full battle armor, riding Caraxes into battle. We wanted to capture the sense of power and charisma that Daemon exudes, as well as the fierce loyalty of Caraxes. Conveying that feeling of a rockstar riding a dragon into battle, with all the energy and excitement that this image evokes. The process of creating this piece was a combination of experimentation, creativity and technical skills. We started by sketching the basic forms, trying out different poses and perspectives until we found the one that felt right. Once we were happy with the rough sketch, we moved on to cleaning up the lines, making sure the Daemon armor details were accurate as well as identifiable details of Caraxes. The final step was adding color to the piece. We painted in the hill that Caraxes landed on, along with the fire filled sky to hint at a battleground they just burned through. Moved on to the character colors making sure to give both Daemon and Caraxes a base of blood red to really bind them together. We added highlights and shadows to create depth and dimensionality to give more dramatic look to the scene. Finally, we made some final adjustments and tweaks to the composition and overall look of the piece. We were very happy with the final result and we hope you will enjoy our artwork as well. We titled the piece "Dragons King" as it reflects the quote that inspired us.
We hope this blog post provides a glimpse into the creative process of creating digital watercolor art in Photoshop, and that it will inspire you to appreciate the beauty of this medium.
