The Making of 'Rather Be With My Dragon': Capturing the Bond Between Rhaenyra Targaryen and Syrax's

​Fans of the hit HBO series House of the Dragon will love this step-by-step look at the digital process behind the artwork of Rhaenyra Targaryen and her dragon Syrax sharing a loving moment in front of the Iron Heart.
The artwork, entitled "Rather Be with My Dragon," captures Rhaenyra's deep bond with her dragon, showing her embracing Syrax and snuggling cheek to cheek. The digital process of creating this artwork began with an initial sketch. First, we drew out the basic composition and placement of Rhaenyra and Syrax, getting that face to face embrace just right.  We added the heart to encase the two characters visually.

Next, the sketch was refined and cleaned up in order to create a clearer and more detailed drawing. We carefully adjusted the proportions of Syrax and added more details to Rhaenyra’s costume and the Iron Heart, to give a nod to the Iron Throne.

After the clean drawing was completed, the final step was to add color and texture to the image. Using digital watercolor techniques, We were able to bring the artwork to life with rich and vibrant colors, making the scene feel more realistic and immersive.
