Bad Dragon: Behind the scenes of our digital watercolor masterpiece from House of the Dragon

Welcome back to our Jungle Blog! Today we'll be sharing the process of creating our digital watercolor piece depicting a scene from season 1 of HBO's House of the Dragon. The scene we've chosen is the moment after a wild chase of Lucerys Velaryon and his dragon, Arrax, where Vhagar unexpectedly gobbles them up leaving Aemond in shock. Although Aemond is in disbelief, Vhagar is quite pleased. We captioned the piece "Bad Dragon" as it reflects the unexpected and brutal act of Vhagar.

The first step in creating this piece was finding the perfect pose and proportions for Vhagar & Aemond. We spent some time studying reference images of the actor and dragon from the show, as well as researching historical depictions of dragons, while still designing it in our unique Jungle Boy style.
The next step in the process of creating this piece,  cleaning up the lines to make sure the details were correct.  During this step, we decided to change Aemond's expression and add a little piece of Arrax's remains to further enhance the fierce satisfaction on Vhagar's eyes.
Then we moved on to the final step of adding color to the piece. For this, we decided to use a digital watercolor technique to give the image a sense of movement and dynamism. We used a combination of brushes and blending modes to create the effect of watercolor blending and create a more organic look. We added highlights and shadows to create depth and dimensionality, and also added some fire effect to give more dramatic look to the scene.
Finally, we made some final adjustments and tweaks to the composition and overall look of the piece. We were very happy with the final result and we hope you will enjoy our artwork as well. We hope this blog post provides some insight into the creative process of creating digital watercolor art in Photoshop, and that it will inspire you to appreciate the beauty of this medium.
