As artists and fans of "The Mandalorian," we were inspired to create our own digital artwork featuring The Child, also known as Grogu, after rewatching season one of the show (We’re not going to mention how many times we’ve rewatched it). The character has such an adorable and endearing quality that we knew we had to try our hand at depicting him in our own style.

Bad Dragon: Behind the scenes of our digital watercolor masterpiece from House of the Dragon
The first step in creating this piece was finding the perfect pose and proportions for Vhagar & Aemond. We spent some time studying reference images of the actor and dragon from the show, as well as researching historical depictions of dragons, while still designing it in our unique Jungle Boy style.
The next step in the process of creating this piece, cleaning up the lines to make sure the details were correct. During this step, we decided to change Aemond's expression and add a little piece of Arrax's remains to further enhance the fierce satisfaction on Vhagar's eyes.
Then we moved on to the final step of adding color to the piece. For this, we decided to use a digital watercolor technique to give the image a sense of movement and dynamism. We used a combination of brushes and blending modes to create the effect of watercolor blending and create a more organic look. We added highlights and shadows to create depth and dimensionality, and also added some fire effect to give more dramatic look to the scene.
Finally, we made some final adjustments and tweaks to the composition and overall look of the piece. We were very happy with the final result and we hope you will enjoy our artwork as well. We hope this blog post provides some insight into the creative process of creating digital watercolor art in Photoshop, and that it will inspire you to appreciate the beauty of this medium.

The Power of Dragons: Our Inspiration for our Epic Watercolor from House of the Dragon
We decided to depict Daemon, in full battle armor, riding Caraxes into battle. We wanted to capture the sense of power and charisma that Daemon exudes, as well as the fierce loyalty of Caraxes. Conveying that feeling of a rockstar riding a dragon into battle, with all the energy and excitement that this image evokes.
The process of creating this piece was a combination of experimentation, creativity and technical skills. We started by sketching the basic forms, trying out different poses and perspectives until we found the one that felt right.
Once we were happy with the rough sketch, we moved on to cleaning up the lines, making sure the Daemon armor details were accurate as well as identifiable details of Caraxes.
The final step was adding color to the piece. We painted in the hill that Caraxes landed on, along with the fire filled sky to hint at a battleground they just burned through. Moved on to the character colors making sure to give both Daemon and Caraxes a base of blood red to really bind them together. We added highlights and shadows to create depth and dimensionality to give more dramatic look to the scene.
Finally, we made some final adjustments and tweaks to the composition and overall look of the piece. We were very happy with the final result and we hope you will enjoy our artwork as well. We titled the piece "Dragons King" as it reflects the quote that inspired us.
We hope this blog post provides a glimpse into the creative process of creating digital watercolor art in Photoshop, and that it will inspire you to appreciate the beauty of this medium.

The Making of 'Not Without My Dragon': A Look at the Process Behind Rhaenys Targaryen and Meleys's Escape
The digital process of creating this artwork began with an initial sketch. We first drew out the basic composition and placement of Rhaenys and Meleys, along with the major elements of the scene such as the cloudy sky in the background and Meleys shooting a fireball. Capturing Meleys' head too us several passes to get to something we were happy with, getting a simplified version of those horns while still keeping it cute.
Next, the sketch was refined and cleaned up in order to create a clearer and more detailed drawing. We carefully adjusted the proportions and added more details to the characters and the environment.
After the clean drawing was completed, the final step was to add color and texture to the image. Using digital watercolor techniques, we were able to bring the artwork to life with rich and vibrant colors, making the scene feel more realistic and immersive.
It all started with a rough sketch. We usually start in Photoshop with a pencil and sketch out the basic composition and details of the piece. For this one, we focused on the embrace between Rhaenyra and Syrax and the caption "Rather be with My Dragon" as a fun twist. We wanted to convey the love and affection between the two characters, and we felt like this pose and caption captured that perfectly. Then we added the heart to help frame both characters together.
Once we were happy with the sketch, it was time to tighten up the linework a bit and get some of the character details in. We chose Rhaenyra’s costume from the episode when her Father announces her as his heir to the Iron Throne. We felt like it was the most iconic and recognizable from Season 1. Also took some time to research Syrax, taking cues from the book and the show. At this point, we came up with the idea of turning the heart into an “Iron Heart” to once again tie into the House of the Dragon themes. Figuring out the swords was tedious, but we felt it would give this piece a nice touch.
Happy with what we had up to this point, the next phase was to go ahead and clean up all the line work. We thought about keeping the lines a little sketchy, but decided against it for this piece.
Once the line work was complete, we were finally able to move on to the digital watercolor phase. We love using watercolor brushes in photoshop because they have a soft and dreamy quality that we think works really well with fantasy and whimsical subjects like dragons. We started by laying down the base colors and gradually building up the layers and details. This is our favorite part of the process because we get to see the artwork come to life and start to look like a finished piece
After the watercolor phase was complete, it was time to add the final touches and details, like the outline around the characters, a light wash for the background and finally the caption.
And that's it! From rough sketch to final digital watercolor painting, it was a fun and enjoyable process to create this artwork. We hope you guys love it as much as we do, and that it brings a little bit of whimsy and magic to your space.
